Jean Louis Buffière and his son Jérome are always very busy. Working not only for the 12Ha wine estate but also the 80Ha peaches and apricot trees; every season passes by too fast for them.
"Sept Chemins" is the central point on the "Chassis" hill, marked indeed by a seven- road crossing. The domaine is a stone's throw away from the crossing and was bought by Jean Louis' grandfather in the 1920's. Phylloxera destroyed a lot of their vines, and Jean-Louis’ grandfather replanted around 5Ha in the 1930's.
The total of the vineyard area is 11 ha now, consisting mostly of Syrah, and 0,80Ha Marsanne and 0,20Ha of Roussanne, in four different plots on "Les Chassis". The soil is mainly covered by alluvial alpine stones, then about half a meter of earth, and finally by a very deep layer of gravel, that reaches deep down to 20-30 meters.
The vines that were planted between the early 1970s and 1999 and are trained on wire.
Syrah comes from 30 year old vines goes into their "7 chemins" cuvée. Sustainable viticulture. Short pruning. Leaf work throughout the summer. Yield: around 40hl/ha.
Harvest: Mechanical (younger vines) and hand harvest (older vines). 100% destemmed. Fermentation is done with natural yeast. Three weeks of maceration in concrete tank (with pumping over twice a week).
