Edlmoser - (Archived)

Michael Edlmoser had the epiphany that wine can be an “incredibly wonderful thing” during a trip to California wine country. Upon his return to Vienna, he was inspired and determined to make major changes at his parent’s winery in Mauer. His vision was realized upon his first harvest in 1998, when he produced a Riesling that was immediately celebrated as Vienna’s top wine. This gave Edlmoser the encouragement to continue, although some more established colleagues brushed him off as a youngster with beginner’s luck. Today Edlmoser produces approximately 60,000 bottles per year. He uses his oenological experience acquired from growing up at a winery which has been in family hands since 1374. The grapes are hand–selected, and modern technology is implemented to gently support nature. He makes no compromises for quality, resulting in wines with a discrete style and great elegance.
