The question was why? Why Austrian wines from Vienna, specifically? And only from Vienna. No Wachau, no Krems, no Kamptal. I was about to send back the standard “not interested” reply to the email until I started reading the story. A rich but overlooked viticultural history, a young movement, natural farming, hmmm. Then I spoke to Paul Darcy, one half of the nascent importing company Darcy & Huber. Here was what I love about good importers: passion, knowledge and commitment. Then we tasted. Christ, Ambrositsch, Rotes Haus. I’m hooked. These are wonderful wines. All of them have something to offer, something unique to say. Their story is great.
