Founded by Guido Zampaglione, Tenuta Grillo is located in Gamalero, Alto Monferrato, Piemonte, Italy. Guido’s agricultural background stems from his upbringing in a traditional farm family in Capania, southern Italy. The family farm, Alta Irpinia, produces cereals and a wine, Fiano. Additionally, Guido’s grandmother owned the oldest winery on the island of Ischia. After this winery was sold, Guido travelled around Italy and France in search of the perfect place to produce ageing wines with strong personality and terroir. He found his place in the dry, chalky, and sandy land of Alto Monferrato, on a mild upland about 250 meters a.s.l. between Gamalero and Mombaruzzo, where grapes such as Barbera, Dolcetto, Freisa and Cortese, worked in the most traditional way, give birth to wines which are the “antithesis of the technology wines”. The estate extends over 32 hectars: 17 are planted with vines which produce approximately 2,500 cases per year.
