Venge Vineyards is a family-owned winery founded by Nils and Kirk Venge. Nils Venge is universally regarded as a pioneer of the Napa Valley wine industry. He came to the valley in the 1960’s and worked as a winemaker for Sterling, Villa Mount Eden and Groth. During his tenure at Groth, Venge became the first American winemaker to receive a perfect 100 point rating from Wine Critic Robert Parker, Jr. The 1985 Groth Reserve Cabernet Sauvignon catapulted Venge to a venerated position in the California wine industry. His son, Kirk, is one of the hottest young winemaking consultants in Napa, working on several projects, including the highly soughtafter Igneous. However, most of his time is spent at Venge, which he owns and operates with his father. They concentrate on balanced, ripe wines from their estate vineyards and other prime locations in Napa Valley and truly believe that great wine is made in the vineyard.
