David Gordon was the starting point guard on the Madison High School baketball team in 1978. His dream of playing in the NBA for the NY Knicks was greatly impaired when he stopped growing at 5′8″. Realizing that he was slow, short and white, he abandoned his dream and decided to pursue a career in the restaurant industry which led him to Tribeca Grill in 1990. The closest he has come to the NBA was when he recommended wine to (Chandon de Briailles Corton Blanc) Michael Jordan the night before he dropped 55 on the Knicks. At the same time, he has garnered critical acclaim and a Wine Spectator Grand Award for his wine program which includes 1800 selections of which 300 are Chateauneuf du Pape.
In addition to being wine director at Tribeca Grill and Nobu, David also created the wine program at the Borgata Casino in Atlantic City, and countless other restaurants in New York.
He serves as a consultant for Continental Airlines as a member of their Congress of Wine Masters and helps them choose their first class cabin selections. He has been featured in articles in many publications including the Wine Spectator, New York Magazine, Food Arts, Sante, Wine and Spirits and Time Out NY. He is a frequent guest on the New York Times tasting panel with Eric Asimov and Florence Fabricant.
David produces his own wine under the Jeanne Marie, Bacchus and Sandy Cove labels which are available exclusively from David Bowler Wine. His three point shot is still deadly but he still can’t go to his left.
Favorite wine- Chateauneuf du Pape, especially Rayas and Clos des Papes
