The Monterrei valley is located in the interior of Galicia, on the border of Portugal, where the climate is hotter and more continental than the rest of Galicia. As a result, the wines can be a litter bigger than their Galician counterparts, often they are a little higher in alcohol and have more weight, but the alcohols are still moderate (around 13-13.5%) and the cool growing season still gives its best qualities to the wines. The soils here tend to have a deep red color and high clay content.
