Château de Valois

Frédéric Leydet runs the family estates (Leydet-Valentin and Chateau de Valois) which span two appellations: Pomerol and Saint-Emilion Grand Cru. Passed down through the generations, Frederic’s father Bernard Leydet began running these estates in 1962 with only a few hectares. By the time of his death in 2005 they had each grown substantially, 8.87 hectares in Saint Emilion and 7.78 hectares in Pomerol.

Frédéric was born and raised at the property and, after studying vine growing and oenology, came to work at the estate in 1996. Now he is fully in charge of the two estates, and has introduced new practices like pruning and green harvesting.

Aging is done on the lees in oak barrels (1/3 new) with no racking, a strict minimum of sulfur and no fining. Frédéric has only one goal in mind: to achieve the total expression of the terroir.
