Ampeleia IGT Costa Toscana

The lion's share of this blend is Cabernet Franc; the rest is mostly Sangiovese, with small amounts of four other varieties native to the Mediterranean basin. Sourced from parcels at 200-600 meters above sea level. The fruit was harvested from the 10th of September to the 5th of October at yields of 35–40 hl/ha.  The grapes are fully destemmed and there is a maceration of 10-15 days.  Aged 16 months in wood/cement tanks followed by 12 months of aging in bottle before release. 20,000 bottles produced.

"...a bold, pungent wine. Wild and at times a bit unrestrained, Ampeleia has a lot going on. Sweet red cherry, herb, rose petal mint and and a host of intensely floral notes from the Cabernet Franc, which is the core of the blend, are all finely woven in the glass. Above all else, the 2014 speaks a with real authority and power. There is so much to like and admire."

"Pungent aromas of violet, truffle, decaying fruit and pure black currant highlight this powerful red, which picks up vegetal and herbaceous notes on the palate, ending with leafy underbrush flavors and dense tannins. Cabernet Franc and Sangiovese. Best from 2020 through 2028. 1,666 cases made."
