BAM! Brut Nature (2009 base)

16% Pinot Blanc/16% Arbanne/68% Petit Meslier. "BAM!" is an acronym of these three relatively rare, low-yielding Champagne varieties. The vines are from a single estate site called Four à Chaux-Sablé in the Tarlant's home village of Oeuilly. They are planted on sandy limestone soils rich in silica. This blanc des blancs bottling is a 2009 base (50%) plus 2007 & 2008 (50%). The fruit is hand-harvested and gently pressed; the juice is fermented with natural yeasts and aged in barrel before being bottled in May 2010. There is no malolactic fermentation. The wine is aged sur lattes. Hand-riddled and disgorged in April 2016 and finished with zero dosage.

"The NV Bam! Brut Nature is a blend of 50% Meslier, 25% Pinot Blanc and 25% Arbanne from the 2009 vintage (50%) and Réserve wines (2008 and 2007). It's fresh and precise on the nose, with refreshing citrus flavors. Round and elegant on the palate, with a good intensity and ripeness, this is an excellent and complex wine with a long, tension-filled finish. It has great grip and purity, but also ripeness and intensity."

"The “BAM!” cuvée is named from an acronym of its cépages, as it is made from a blend of sixty-eight percent Petit Meslier and equal parts of Pinot Blanc and Arbanne. The current release is half 2009 base year and half a blend of 2008 and 2007. The vins clairs here do not go through malo, but are barrel-fermented spend eight months aging in cask after fermentation, 113 prior to bottling. The wine spent nearly six years on its fine lees prior to disgorgement. The bouquet is deep, complex and vibrant, wafting from the glass in a mix of pear, peach, bread dough, chalky soil tones, a hint of fresh nutmeg and lovely, gently musky floral tones in the upper register. On the palate the wine is deep, full-bodied and precise, with a fine core, excellent mineral drive, refined mousse and a very long, snappy and well-balanced finish. Without malo or buffering dosage, this is still a young wine and will be even better with a few years in the cellar, but it is already really very easy to drink in its youth. 2019-2035+. 92."

"The NV Brut Nature BAM!, Tarlant's Petit Meslier/Arbanne/Pinot Blanc blend, is bright and punchy, with plenty of citrus-driven notes. I would prefer to drink the BAM! over the next few years, while the flavors remain vibrant. This is a decidedly taut style, even though the base vintage is 2009. "
