Barolo Arione

Boglietti Barolo Arione label

Arione is Enzo’s only non-La Morra cru. It comes from 0.7ha of vines at 450m facing SW/S, planted in 1999. These are the nine southernmost rows of vines in Arione, which is the southernmost cru in Serralunga. Enzo has a 25-year lease here; his first Arione was produced in 2003. As Roberto Conterno of Giacomo Conterno has since purchased the remainder of the cru, there are currently only two producers of Arione, Conterno and Boglietti. In Enzo’s words, the vines of Arione produce his most “Pinot-like” Barolo due to the altitude and wind-swept freshness of the site.Fermentation in open-top tine, 80 days of maceration. Aging is in French oak cask. 2,000 bottles made.

"The Enzo Boglietti 2016 Barolo Arione draws its fruit from Serralunga d'Alba, from a vineyard site that has gained much attention in recent years. Arione has thick silty soils and these contribute to the gentle finesse and floral perfumes of the wine. Don't forget power. There is plenty of muscle flexing in this brawny, determined Nebbiolo with firm tannins and deep structure. A mere 2,000 bottles were produced. Count on this wine to complete a long and rewarding drinking arc."

"A soft, juicy red with plum, berry and cherry character and hints of hazelnuts and rose petals. Very enticing now. It’s full and round-tannined with a long, beautiful finish. Delicious to taste, but one to drink in three or four years. Try after 2023."
