Barolo del comune di La Morra

2016
Italy
Piedmont

2016 marks the first release of Gagliardo’s Barolo del Comune di La Morra. It is a selection of fruit from the vineyards adjacent to the cellar, the crus of Santa Maria and Serra dei Turchi. This area of La Morra has some of the youngest soils in the Barolo zone, which impart more immediate drinkability. Harvest was on October 17th and 18th. Macerations lasted 12 days. Aging was in large French oak botti of 3500L for 30 months. 4,260 bottles made.

"The sweetness of fruit coming up out of the glass is really pretty, offering flowers, plums and ripe strawberries. It’s full-bodied with chewy tannins and a flavorful finish. Powerful and rich. Length and intensity here. A little tight at the end, but lots going on. Beautiful, regional blend. Try after 2023."

"This is one of two new wines to join the Gianni Gagliardo portfolio with this vintage. The 2016 Barolo del Comune di La Morra draws its fruit from various vineyards in the Santa Maria subzone and from the Serra dei Turchi vineyard that is closest to the winery headquarters. With a small production of 4,260 bottles, the wine is soft and lush with generous doses of Nebbiolo fruit and oak spice. The tight and linear tannins should guide the wine forward in time."
