Barolo del Comune di Serralunga

Sourced from 2.1ha of different parcels (mainly the crus of Cerrati and Meriame) all located in the village of Serralunga d'Alba, at altitudes of 360-400m above sea level; the vineyards have south-east and west exposures, and are composed mostly of calcareous and tufaceous soil. Cover crops such as clover and mustard greens are planted to achieve balance and limit yields naturally.

The grapes were destemmed and crushed; fermentation occurred spontaneously in cement vats, with maceration lasting 20 days with pumpovers. After malolactic, the wine was racked into used Slavonian oak botti of 3000-3600L and aged for 30 months. Bottled unfined/unfiltered and bottle aged for 6 months before release. 10,100 bottles produced.

"A pure, elegant version, this red exudes strawberry, cherry rose, mineral and tobacco flavors. It's sleek and intense, with a firm base of tannins lining the finish. Best from 2024 through 2043. 1,040 cases made, 316 cases imported"

"opens to a broad and wide span of dark aromas that include dried blackberry, spice, tobacco and crushed stone. The delivery of those notes is horizontal and far reaching. Give the wine a few extra minutes in the glass, and the wine begins to unpack what I would describe as vertical aromas of balsam herb and licorice that lift gracefully from the bouquet. This is a textbook expression from Serralunga d'Alba. Breathe in that elaborate bouquet with a bowl of chickpea and pasta soup."

"The 2015 Barolo del Comune di Serralunga d'Alba is a very delicious entry-level Barolo from Schiavenza. Macerated dark cherry, sweet tobacco, licorice, menthol, and spice are all woven together in this pliant, mid-weight, super-expressive Barolo from Schiavenza. All the elements are impeccably balanced."
