"The 2018 Beaujolais-Villages from Georges Descombes is a beautifully sappy example of this vintage, with a bit more mid-palate stuffing than in some years, which is all to the good. The bouquet jumps from the glass in a lovely blend of red and black cherries, sweet cranberries, fresh thyme, a fine base of soil tones and a smoky topnote. On the palate the wine is bright, fullbodied and sappy at the core, with very good soil signature, lovely focus and grip and just a whisper of backend tannin perking up the long and complex finish. This is a first class example. 2020-2028. "
