NEW YORK ONLY.
Because of the proximity to the surrounding, shallow lakes, the beerenauslese has 85 - 90% botrytis in 2017. Gerhard Kracher points out that there is good botrytis and bad botrtyis. The best conditions happen in a warm year, when the grapes are ripe and botrytis can set quickly when there is still a good amount of acidity. The blend is 60% Welschriesling and 40% Chardonnay. 80% is aged in stainless steel tanks and 20% in barrel. The Welschriesling was planted by Alois Kracher in 1959 and any new vineyards are a massale selection from the old vines.
