Brézème Syrah Côtes-du-Rhône

100% Syrah. From Texier's younger, i.e. 35-40-year-old vines, in the limestone-rich, cooler Brézème vineyard area (on the eastern side of the Rhône at the southernmost edge of the northern Rhône Valley). They lie on a steep, south-facing hill, are organically farmed and harvested by hand. The wine is made identically to its St. Julien Syrah counterpart: whole clusters are fermented with native yeasts in concrete tank with a short 5-7-day maceration; there is no extraction, only a submerged cap for a gentle infusion of color and flavor; aging was in concrete for 15 months in 2018 without racking; bottling is without fining or filtration and with a tiny dose of 10-15 mg. of sulfur.

"Deep violet. Powerful, smoke-accented dark berries, licorice and pungent flowers on the mineral-inflected nose. Chewy black and blue fruit and candied violet flavors take on a spicy aspect as the wine opens up. In a generous yet still lively style, with solid finishing thrust and dusty tannins framing a long, dark-fruit-dominated finish."

"The brand new release of Brézème rouge from Éric Texier is fresh off the boat and excellent. The nose jumps from the glass in a wealth of syrah aromatic goodness, with scents of cassis, black raspberries, pepper, smoked meats, tapenade and a lovely base of limestone soil tones. O the palate the wine is bright, full-bodied and beautifully balanced, with a fine core, a bit of backend tannin and a long, impeccably balanced and complex finish. This wine is awash in all of the joy that young syrah can bring! 2020-2030. "
