Brunello di Montalcino

2014

The La Gerla Brunello is a blend of both the Canalicchio and Castelnuovo vineyards; the average age of the vines is 25 years old.

The grapes are kept cool for 7-8 days before fermentation, which lasts up to 15 days. The wine is then transferred to large 50-100hl casks and is aged for three years, racked twice a year, then bottled. It is then aged for an additional year before release.

Available in 6/750ml.

"...opens to a delicately perfumed bouquet with layers of soft berry fruit and blue flower. You get wild rose, lavender and dried violet. Wait a second or two longer, and you might recognize spicy notes of smoked clove and crushed black pepper. This is a lean to mid-weight effort with fragile aromas and a long, silky mouthfeel. Production is 20,000 bottles strong."

"La Gerla's 2008 Brunello di Montalcino hits the palate with a blast of dark fruit, game, tobacco, licorice and incense. Wild, powerful and intense, the 2008 packs serious punch. Ideally, it is best left alone for a few years so that the tannins can soften in bottle. There is no shortage of personality in this full-bodied, authoritative Brunello."
