Brunello di Montalcino Riserva gli Angeli

This single-vineyard cru is La Gerla's flagship wine. Made in select years, this comes entirely from a one-hectare parcel of old vines (25-30 years old) from the original Biondi-Santi site, located between 270 and 320 meters above sea level. This hillside vineyard occupies a privileged position at the estate and consistently offers beautiful and healthy fruit. The wine is aged for 4 years in 50 -100hl Slavonian oak casks and an additional year in bottle before being released.

"The 2013 Brunello di Montalcino Riserva is dark, rich and ripe, showing crushed plum and sweet apple, giving way to confectionery spices, orange zest, sweet minerals and florals, in a primary, fruit-forward expression. On the palate, soft textures give way to dark red berries and sweet spices. Subtle but deep mint, herbs, orange spice, and hints of cedar come to the fore. The finish is long, showing dark chocolate and sweet spices, with lingering herbal tones and hints of fine tannins resonating beneath it all. It’s hard to imagine how the 2013 Riserva will mature, as it’s already in an extremely enjoyable stage of its evolution."

"Good saturated red. Clean aromas of smoke, flint, dark and red berries, with a herbal undertone. Strikes a nice balance between firmness and ripeness, with dense flavors of smoked sausage, dark and red berries and licorice. Finishes clean and ripe."

"This is rich, with plum, cherry, spice, soy and iron flavors, supported by a spine of vibrant acidity and refined tannins. Firm yet fluid, fading gracefully on the long, fruit- and mineral-tinged aftertaste. Best from 2021 through 2040. 450 cases made, 250 cases imported"

"Aromas of fragrant blue flower, pipe tobacco, black-skinned fruit and smoke shape the nose. On the palate, fine-grained tannins and fresh acidity accompany ripe plum, orange zest, vanilla and charcuterie before a coffee-bean finish. Drink 2021–2028"
