Chablis "Boissonneuse"

Domaine de la Boissonneuse is a single holding of 11 hectares. The parcel is on a hillside beside the village of Préhy and contains kimmeridgian soil of exceptionally high quality, with very fine minerals. The 30 year-old vines grow on interspersed layers of limestone and clay, brimming with fossils. Fermented and aged in large foudres for ten months.

"The 2018 Chablis La Boissoneuse, from a parcel in Préhy, is gracious and impeccably balanced. Lemon confit, almond, dried flowers, mint and chamomile all grace this rounded, wonderfully inviting Chablis from Julien Brocard. Soft contours add to the wine's considerable immediacy and overall appeal. The 2018 was aged entirely in 50- and 100-hectoliter casks - an approach that works beautifully for this wine."

"In addition to running his family’s Domaine Jean-Marc Brocard, Julien Brocard started own label in 2012. His own 44.5-acre domaine is Demeter certified, including the 27 acres at Boissoneuse, on a hill above Préhy, where he first experimented with biodynamics in the mid-1990s. He ferments the wine in large oak vats, allowing the grape lees to transmit a sense of the limestone soil. Under a sun-warmed apple fragrance, the lees carry the generous richness of an oyster broth, the flavors held in tension that predicts more detailed flavors to come. This performs above most village Chablis and well above its price."
