Champagne "Le Quintette" Chardonnay 5 Terroirs Extra Brut

Jean-Marc’s only blanc de blancs, from five parcels of Chardonnay: La Justice (Vertus); Les Frileux (Epernay); Les Tartières-Porgeons (Pierry); Moquebouteille (Dizy); and Les Basses Ronces (Mardeuil). 2014 base vintage, blended with 20% solera reserve wine. The cold stabilization is completed naturally, and there is neither fining nor filtration. The wine is aged on its lees for a minimum of 36 months.

"The le Quintette bottling from Jean-Marc Sélèque is a Blanc de Blancs that he selects from five different lieux à dits- hence the name. Half of the vins clairs are barrel-fermented and the other half raised in tank, with the current release hailing from the base year of 2012 and the wine finished with a dosage of two grams per liter, after more than three years aging sur latte. The wine delivers exceptional aromatic complexity in its mélange of pear, fresh almond, chalky minerality, brioche, white flowers and just a hint of incipient smokiness in the upper register. On the palate the wine is pure, full and focused, with a rock solid core, very refined mousse, lovely complexity and breed, bright, well-buffered acids and outstanding length and grip on the classy finish. Despite its relativity modest dosage, this wine is perfectly balanced and already very easy to drink, though it will be even better with five or six years in the cellar. Great juice. 2017-2040."

"The NV Extra Brut Le Quintette Chardonnay 5 Terroirs is a blend of five Chardonnay vineyards planted between 1950 and 1985. The low dosage style really seems to work well in bringing out the wine's inner tension and vivid, precise varietal notes. This tightly wound, energetic Champagne is one of the best wines I have tasted from Sélèque. Disgorged: January 2016. Dosage is 2 grams per liter."

"Based on the 2017 vintage and disgorged in November 2020 with minimal dosage, Sélèque's NV Extra Brut Blanc de Blancs Quintette bursts with scents of citrus oil, fresh bread, nougat, dried white flowers and crisp orchard fruit. Medium to full-bodied, chiseled and incisive, it's tightly wound, with racy acids and chalky structuring dry extract, concluding with a long, saline finish. This will amply reward a few years' patience."
