Chardonnay "Gap's Crown" Vineyard Sonoma Coast

United States

Gap’s Crown is located in a cool and windy climate called the Petaluma Gap in Southern Sonoma County. This 32 acre plot of Chardonnay is made up of clay and loam soils and is very high in elevation so it is not negatively affected by the cool air.

The Chardonnay “Gap’s Crown,” was the first of its kind for the couple. Grapes were harvested and cold pressed/settled overnight. Wine was aged on the lees and underwent malolactic fermentation. Aged for about a year in new and French oak barrels.

The 2016 Gap’s Crown Vineyard Chardonnay is very citrus forward. Notes of apple, pear and peaches mixed with spicy and floral notes make for a very crisp and juicy wine. There is a slight minterality toward the finish to round it all out.

"This has gorgeous aromas of ginger and crushed rock, a stony mineral component that's irresistible and memorable. Balanced in richness, it sings in baked pear and honeysuckle, finding a touch of restraint within a medium-bodied frame of welcome decadence."

"Translucent yellow-gold. Mineral-accented nectarine, orange, melon and white flowers on the highly perfumed, incisive nose. Smooth, focused and lively in the mouth, offering intense orchard and pit fruit flavors complemented by suggestions of sweet butter and fennel. Shows very good depth as well as energy and finishes minerally and very long, with lingering citrus fruit and floral notes."

"The 2016 Gap's Crown Vineyard Chardonnay has an intense, open nose with hazelnut, toast and minerally notes of crushed stone over a core of baked yellow apple and pear with touches of tangy yogurt and croissant. Medium to full-bodied, it has concentrated fruit and savory layers with honey-nut flavors, uplifting acidity and a long, flavor-packed finish. 143 cases were made."

"A deeper, golden-colored chardonnay with a strong layer of butterscotch, toffee and waffle-cone character that shrouds ripe peaches and melon in savory form. A concentrated style that proffers richness ahead of freshness. Drink now"
