Chassagne-Montrachet 1er Cru Blanchot-Dessus

The domaine’s vines in the premier cru Les Blanchots Dessus were planted in 1929 and they produce a wine of great depth and richness. Blanchot-Dessus is located just next to Montrachet and Criottes Batard Montrachet. 3-4 barrels produced annually, 25-33% new oak. Aged in barrel for 24 months. 30-45 g/L sulfur added at bottling.

"The 2020 Chassagne-Montrachet 1er Cru Blanchot-Dessus is brilliant, which will come as no surprise to readers who have been following this superb bottling over the last decade and beyond. Wafting from the glass with aromas of pear, confit citrus, orange oil, white flowers, nutmeg and toasted bread, it's full-bodied, satiny and seamless, with a deep, multidimensional core, racy acids and a long, resonant finish. Why many consumers chase second-rate renditions of Montrachet when they could be drinking this magical wine continues to mystify me."

"A discreet though perceptible dollop of wood frames exceptionally floral-suffused aromas of various white orchard fruit, especially peach, spice and soft citrus nuances. The dense, serious and muscular large-scaled flavors display evident power on the bitter lemon-inflected finale that goes on and on. This isn't refined but it's first rate and should age accordingly. One to look for."
