Châteauneuf-du-Pape Vieilles Vignes

2020
France
Rhône

65% Grenache, 20% Syrah, 10% Mourvèdre, 5% Cinsault. The only difference between the Vieilles Vignes cuvée and the CdP Tradition cuvée is the age of the vines which here reach 100 years old. The wines are made in the same exact way: 70% in tank (stainless steel and cement) and 30% in used barrels.

"A classic representation of the appellation, Chante Cigale's 2020 Chateauneuf du Pape Vieilles Vignes is 80% Grenache, 15% Syrah and 5% Mourvèdre, from a mix of stony and sandy parcels. Aged mostly in foudres, with 20% in demi-muids, it offers up complex aromas of leather, dark fruit (plum), peppery spice and hints of clove and cola. It's full-bodied and rich, concentrated without being heavy, long and velvety on the finish."

"A typical South of France smell here with small berries, dried herbs, thyme and hints of roasted meat. Medium body with fine tannins. Dense and layered with fresh acidity and a slightly chewy and fruity finish. Some pepper, too. 70% grenache, 20% syrah and 10% mourvedre. Better after 2024."
