Chianti Classico

85% Sangiovese, 15% Colorino & Malvasia Nera, aged for approximately 1 year in used barriques and stainless steel tanks.

The timing of the harvest- generally in the beginning of October- is the most important moment for this producer; they make several passes through the vineyards so that each parcel can be harvested at the best possible moment in terms of maturity. The grapes are harvested into small crates so the bunches don’t break under their own weight.

Alcoholic fermentation occurs in stainless steel tanks for about 10 days at a controlled temperature of 26°C; maceration on the skins continues for another 8-10 days. As soon as the wine finishes malolactic fermentation, the wine is transferred to used French barriques for about 12 months. Bottling occured in September 2014; 20,000 bottles were produced.

With a rather intense ruby red colour, it presents overtones of berries blended with spicy hints which are heightened with aging. Well structured on the palate, with a velvety finish.

Strong assessment for this vintage in Tuscany, with spring and summer proving optimal for grape maturation. Spring rains in the months of April and May mirrored historic precipitation levels for the area; however, th months of June, July, and August had almost zero rain, and the summer temperatures were high but not suffocating.  In August, a few light rains helped the ripening of the polyphenols and aromatic components of the varietals.  Ripening occured in September and October under a mild, dry, and sunny climate. This is a vintage that is excellent both in terms of typicity and longevity.
