Chinon Clos Guillot

100% Cabernet Franc. Clos Guillot is a 4-hectare plot of the youngest Baudry vines, planted between 1993 and 2000 on a SE-facing slope near town of Chinon (above the Clos de L'Olive and adjacent to Le Chêne Vert). Clay over limestone bedrock in the upper parcel, with more sand and gravel in the lower part. Fermented in wood vats and aged in used barriques for 1 year and then 9 more months in unlined cement vats before bottling. Its first vintage was 2000.

"...another absolutely outstanding example of the vintage. The wine is nicely cool for this hot growing season, coming in at a very refined 12.5 percent octane and offering up a young and absolutely stellar bouquet of sweet dark berries, a touch of chicory, cigar smoke, complex, gravelly soil tones, a bit of roasted meats and a gentlyfloral topnote. On the palate the wine is pure, full-bodied, focused and beautifully balanced, witha superb core of fruit, excellent transparency, ripe, moderately chewy tannins and great length and grip on the complex and very, very promising finish. This is a young wine and needs time in the cellar to allow its secondary layers to emerge, but it is so cunningly well balanced that it is already quite easy to drink in its youth! 2023-2065."
