Cirò Rosso Classico Superiore Riserva

Italy
Calabria
2018

The Riserva is 100% Gaglioppo from the vineyard Muzzunetto, the oldest vines of the estate, planted in 1968, facing north. The grapes were harvested in the first week of October at 50hl/ha.  Fermentation was spontaneous with an extended maceration of one month, after which the free-run juice is drained (not pressed). Aged one year in a 2000L Slavonian oak botte.  It undergoes a wide filtration and is then bottled-aged until four years after the harvest.  3,000 bottles made.

"The enticing 2018 Ciro Rosso Classico Superiore Riserva wafts up with a rich blend of plum sauce, rubbed sage, brown spice and sweet smoke. Silky and refined, it casts silken textures across the palate. Wildberry fruits slowly saturate as clove hints and spiced citrus add further depth. The 2018 leaves a web of fine-grained tannins that wrap the palate with youthful poise. Cranberry crunchiness lingers under an air of violet florals. The 2018 may drink sooner than the 2016, yet that shouldn't take any credit away from this absolutely glorious Ciro. "
