Clin d'Oeil IGT Coteaux du Salagou
100% Grenache. This bottling was a one-off in the very difficult and short 2017 vintage; Clin d'Oeil replaced the estate's usual 100%-Cinsault "Oeillade" and is made the same way: pressed in whole clusters, fermented carbonically and aged in tank. The intention for the Oeillade, as well as for its stand-in Clin d'Oeil in 2017 is to make a true vin de soif; it is always released a year ahead of their flagship "Nuit Grave" red.. As for all of its estate wines, the Grenache is planted on iron-rich, red clay soils full of black basalt stones. The farming is organic (certified since 2008); the soils are worked with grass allowed to grow between vines; and some biodynamic preparations are in use as of 2016. Harvest is by hand. Clin d'Oeil is a gentle rendition of Grenache, with soft tannins, light body and juicy, fresh, red-berry fruit (not jammy as Grenache can be but sweet), with just enough acidity to give it lift on the finish.
