Corton Charlemagne Grand Cru

Magnificent terroir of white marls high on the hill-side and facing south. Very calcareous ground, with good drainage, allowing harvests at optimal maturity. From three tenths of one hectare of vines that average thirty-five and fifty-five years-old. The persistence on the palate is ridiculously long. It is one of the loveliest white wines of Burgundy which may be tasted young and which gains in complexity and richness as the years go by.

"Here too there is a vague whiff of the exotic and in particular viognier and pineapple on the mineral reduction, lemon-lime and apple scents. There is excellent delineation to the intensely mineral-driven big-bodied flavors that possess a taut muscularity on the youthfully austere, very dry and beautifully persistent finale. At least some patience will be required."

"The 2019 Corton-Charlemagne Grand Cru was showing a little reduction on the nose, although there is good intensity underneath. The palate is well balanced with a crisp line of acidity, the tangy orange peel and apricot notes bursting forth, and a racy, tightly wound finish. It lacks a little length on the aftertaste, but it is very focused and brimming with energy."

"The 2019 Corton-Charlemagne Grand Cru is very promising, delivering aromas of pear, orange oil, white flowers, peaches, almond paste and beeswax. Full-bodied, layered and concentrated, it’s chiseled and incisive, with tangy acids girdling its rich, muscular core. I’m looking forward to revisiting this in bottle. "
