COZs - POP Tinto

Portugal
Lisboa
2021

100% Castelão. This is the PoP’s version of the Castelao wine from Tiago and Antonio. The grapes here also come from Montejunto, north of Lisbon, and undergo a light maceration, with only three days on the skins, and are fermented on whole clusters. The wine rests for 11 months. This is a “junior Castelão”, lighter and fresher than most wines made of this grape, however it still shows the uniqueness of Portuguese wines with its Atlantic character.

"The 2021 Pop Cozs Tinto from António Marques-Da-Cruz and Tiago Teles is made entirely from Castelão, grown in Montejunto, just north of Lisbon. The wine is one hundred percent whole cluster, only macerates for three days and is aged for eleven months prior to bottling, with an eye towards making it immediately inviting. The wine offers up a lovely, quite transparent nose of red and black cherries, woodsmoke, fresh herbs, a fine base of soil, a touch of meatiness and a topnote of bitter cherry skin. On the palate the wine is bright, full-bodied and soil-driven, with a good core, lovely focus and balance, suave tannins and a long, bouncy and complex finish. This is a lovely wine, with impressive intensity of flavor and complexity. 2023-2035+."
