The 2018 vintage was a true test of trial and error in the blending aspect. Numerous lots, consisting of rolled stones and volcanic basalt, rocky soil, from the McQueen and Lefore vineyards were utilized in making the Estate Reserve. Grapes consisting mostly of Cabernet Sauvignon (75%) with Cabernet Franc (15%) and Malbec (10%) were extracted and aged in French oak and Italian concrete.
Initially the wine is a little bit closed but as it opens up there are a variety of spicy aromas such as sage, rosemary and thyme. Full bodied, the wine covers the pallet, with slight red/blue notes but the main driver is the building tannins that make for an ever lasting, chewy finish. Here, the goal with this cuvee was to create an elegant wine with depth and tannin that may not be typical to the new world style. 488cs produced
