Fixin 1er Cru les Arvelets

From the north, this is the very first 1er Cru vineyard in the Côte d’Or. There is very little top soil on Bajocian marl. Just under one hectare, planted in 1956 and 1976. Aged for 18 months in barrel (30% new).

Only 3,000 bottles produced.

"The 2017 Fixin Les Hervelets 1er Cru marks its debut from Berthaut-Gerbet, since hitherto there was insufficient fruit to make one barrel. The abundance in 2017 made it possible. Fortunately, more vines have been planted, so this wine should make more regular appearances in the future. It has very detailed bouquet, a mélange of red and black fruit laced with undergrowth and crushed stone. The palate is medium-bodied, a little chalkier and sharper than the Les Arvelets. Since this is 100% whole bunches and matured in a used barrel, it has a very different, slightly more tertiary finish compared to Les Arvelets, but it feels very long and natural. This is very promising, but good luck finding any of the 300-odd bottles."
