From the north, this is the very first 1er Cru vineyard in the Côte d’Or. In Fixin, there are only five premier crus and three of them are monopoles. There is very little top soil on crinoidal limestone and sandy marl. Berthaut owns just under one hectare, planted in 1956, 1960 and 1980. Fermented and aged for 18 months in barrel (approximately 30% new). 50% whole cluster.

"The 2018 Fixin Les Arvelets 1er Cru is matured in 35% new oak. It has a tight but focused bouquet that takes time to unfurl, eventually offering a mixture of red and blue fruit plus just a touch of potpourri. The palate is medium-bodied with supple, grainy tannins, good density on the midpalate and an engaging, fleshy but delineated, peppery finish. Very fine."
