Les Arches Raisins Migrateurs
80% Grenache/20% Carignan .In order to face the challenges of multiple frost-afflicted vintages in the Coteaux du Loir, the Nicolas family has expanded their cellar and begun a new line of négoce wines under the "Les Arches de Bellivière" label in the 2016 vintage. From a like-minded grower in the southern Rhône, they were able to source biodynamically farmed Grenache and Carignan, the "migrant grapes" referenced in the naming of the wine. The Rhône is certainly a departure from the Loire roots of Belliviere, but in fact Eric spent years there while training as an oenologist and had the good fortune in August 2017 to stumble on the opportunity to purchase beautiful fruit from gobelet-trained, 45-year-old vines from a biodynamic grower near Mont Ventoux. The Nicolases were able to choose the moment of harvest and harvest the fruit by hand themselves, in one day, into small bins which were immediately put in a refrigerated truck and hustled back to their winery. The grapes were destemmed, crushed, fermented with natural yeasts and aged in old barrels for 12 months. The black fruit is ripe but crunchy, with a fine balance of density, freshness and elegant tannins.
