Les Enfers Blanc des Blancs (2015)

100% Chardonnay. 75% 2015 & 25% 2014-2013 reserve.

Les Enfers is the newest bottling released by Ulysse Collin. It is a small vineyard neighboring Collin's Les Roises vineyard in its home village of Congy in the northern Coteaux du Morin. The vines have eastern exposure (vs. the southern exposure of Roises) and are planted in clay topsoils with limestone-rich subsoils (less clay and more limestone vs. Roises). As for all Collin Champagnes, the fruit is hand-harvested and pressed; the juice is lightly sulfured and settled overnight, then fermented spontaneously and slowly with natural yeasts in oak, with the reserve wine spending an extra year in barrel; the wine is bottled without fining, filtering or sulfuring and aged sur lattes for an extended period, 4 years in the case of Les Enfers. The wine is disgorged and finished with a small dosage of 1-2 grams/liter at most.

"The NV Extra-Brut Blanc de Blancs Les Enfers (2015 base) is a gorgeous wine. Rich and resonant, the 2015 possesses terrific depth, that richness accentuated by the 48 months this edition spent on its lees. Varietal Chardonnay aromas and flavors build in an ample, vinous Champagne. Time in the glass brings out pretty floral, mineral and graphite accents to round things out. The Enfers conveys tremendous richness and yet retains so much transparency. Its a remarkable Champagne that beautifully encapsulates Olivier Collin's style. Disgorged: March, 2020."
