Montefalco Rosso DOC

Italy
Umbria
2019

60% Sangiovese/15% Sagrantino/15% Merlot/10% Montepulciano. From biodynamically farmed, certified-organic, hand-harvested estate fruit. In general, fruit from the younger vines goes into this traditional DOC Montefalco. The different varieties are harvested and vinified separately, as their ripening times vary widely. Fermentation occurs with native yeasts and a small amount of sulfur in closed stainless steel tanks. Maceration lasts about 10 days. The wine is blended and aged for a minimum of 18 months in old Slavonian oak botti. It is bottled without fining, filtering or any additional sulfur and aged for 6 more months before release.

"The spicy 2020 Rossofongoli keeps me at the edge of the glass with its intense mix of dried cherries, sage and ashen stone. It’s silky and deep, with fleshy textures that are nicely offset by a core of tart wild berries and zippy acidity. This leaves a staining of primary concentration and keeps the mouth watering for more through the long yet remarkably fresh finale. The Rossofongoli is a blend of Sangiovese and Montepulciano that clocks in at a highly respectable 11.5% abv."
