Montefalco Sagrantino DOCG

2015
Italy
Umbria

100% Sagrantino. From biodynamically farmed, hand-harvested estate fruit. The younger vines of about 15 years old go into this traditional Sagrantino (the oldest vines go into the Fracaton bottling). Fermentation is spontaneous with native yeasts, a bare touch of sulfur and no temperature control in vat. The maceration is around 30 days. The wine is aged for a minimum of 5 years in old Slavonian oak botti. It is bottled without fining, filtering or additional sulfur. 2015 is still the current release as of summer 2022.

"A mix of ripe plums and cherries blends with dusty rose and hints of shaved cedar to form a dusty yet dazzling bouquet as the 2018 Montefalco Rosso Riserva Serpullo blossoms in the glass. It’s fleshy and enveloping on the palate, with masses of red and black berry fruits propelled by brisk acids. A pretty inner sweetness pops toward the close. The 2018 finishes lightly structured, yet long and potent, while leaving pretty violet and lavender tones to linger. This is a vintage to enjoy over the near term, as it’s already packed full of pleasure."
