Morgon Javernières Les Impenitents

100% Gamay. From Desvignes' three oldest parcels--planted in 1912 and 1914, totalling 0.8 hectare in the historic Morgon lieu-dit of Javernières at the foot of the famous hill of Côte du Py. The soils are much heavier and stickier with iron-rich red clay here versus the more schistous "rotten rock" up the hill of the Côte. The fruit is hand-harvested in whole clusters and fermented in open-top cement vats for 12-13 days with a submerged cap.

Les Impéntitents is by far Desvignes' smallest, most structured and most complex bottling; it is also the last to be released.

"As usual, the 2018 Morgon Côte du Py Les Impénitents is one of the wines of the vintage in the Beaujolais, opening in the glass with aromas of black raspberries, mulberries, cracked pepper, orange rind and peonies. On the palate, it's deep, full-bodied and enveloping, with a concentrated and multidimensional core, powdery tannins and a long, lingering finish. This is somewhat broader and more immediate than the 2017 rendition, and while its aging potential is prodigious, it will be more approachable young. As readers will remember, this bottling is a special cuvée derived from three parcels within Javernières that were planted between 1912 and 1914."
