Morgon "La Voûte Saint-Vincent"

100% Gamay. The beginning of the Desvignes range is La Voûte Saint Vincent, which comes from various estate parcels in the Morgon climat of Douby, north of and just below the Côte du Py. Douby has deep, sandier, granitic soils and yields a more supple style of Morgon compared to Py's famously muscular one. The vines for La Voûte average 50-60 years old. Viticulture and vinification are consistent across all Desvignes wines. The vines are certified-organic and harvested by hand. The clusters go through a semi-carbonic maceration in open-top concrete vats, with a maceration of 12-13 days with a submerged cap. A very small amount of sulfur is sometimes added after malo. The wine is aged in concrete and bottled in spring following the harvest with a light, non-sterile filtration. The wine is named for the vault or "voûte" of the old family house and for the patron saint of winemakers, St. Vincent.

"The 2019 la Voûte Saint Vincent bottling of Morgon from Louis-Claude Desvignes is a young and nicely structured example of the vintage, with a tightly-knit and well-balanced palate impression that should blossom beautifully with some bottle age. The bouquet offers up primary blend of red and black cherries, woodsmoke, gamebird, still a bit of youthful stems, a fine base of soil and a topnote of fresh thyme. On the palate the wine is bright, full-bodied and youthful, with a good core, fine soil signature, moderate tannins and fine focus and grip on the long, promising finish. This is a rare 2019 that will demand some bottle age before giving up the goods. 2023-2055+. "
