Nuits-Saint-Georges 1er cru "Aux Cras" Vieilles Vignes

This small plot of 25 acres is more than 75 years old, with eastern exposure, in the upper part (250 m of altitude) of the band of 1er cru in border of Vosne-Romanée. The soil is small, highly filtered gravels (lime græzes) which quickly heat up in the slightest ray of sunshine. The resulting wine has the typical structure of the Nuits-Saint-Georges but the tannins retain the elegance of Vosne-Romanée.

"An alluring line of pure cherry permeates this elegant, silky and harmonious red. Black currant, blueberry and mineral notes add complexity as the long finish plays out. Needs air to show its best, so decant now or be patient. Best from 2019 through 2035; 6 cases imported."

"Healthy bright, dark red. Very dark aromas of blackberry, licorice and mint. Conveys an impression of tiny-berry concentration but comes across as extremely primary and imploded today, with strong acidity and serious mouthcoating tannins currently keeping the fruit under wraps. Combines Vosne-side flowers and structure with the forest fruits of Nuits-Saint-Georges. This is 13. 5% alcohol; Clavelier told me he chaptalized a negligible 0. 2% just to prolong the fermentation. This wine will require patience."
