Nuits-Saint-Georges 1er Cru Les Procès

This 0.63 hectare vineyard is situated in the middle of the slope. The soil here is made of clay and limestone, which ensures a certain minerality in the wine; the average age of the vines is about 40 years old.

The wine is fermented 50% whole-cluster. The wine is then gravity-fed into French oak barrels (20% new) for malolactic fermentation and aging.

"...opening reluctantly in the glass to reveal aromas of red berries, grilled meat and warm spices. On the palate, the wine is medium to full-bodied, satiny but dense, with a deep, concentrated core and chalky structuring tannins. This will need more time than the comparatively precocious 2017 rendition."

"The 2016 Nuits Saint-Georges Les Procès 1er Cru feels broody on the nose with a hint of scorched earth tincturing the red fruit, complemented by sous-bois, marmalade and brown spices. The palate is marked by plenty of sappy red fruit, open and expressive with a dash of white pepper and cloves towards the long and tender finish. Superb!"

"Reduction flattens the underlying fruit today. Otherwise there is a really lovely mouthfeel to the relatively sleek and appealingly intense middle weight flavors that exude a subtle minerality while exhibiting solid length and very fine depth on the ever-so-mildly rustic finale."
