"Paisaje de las Islas" Forastera Gomera

100% varietal Foraestera Blanca from the island of La Gomera.

Good luck finding this grape anywhere but our warehouse and La Gomera island!

Forastera Blanca usually makes a locally consumed wine, but Agustin was intrigued by the opportunity to make this overlooked grape into a great white wine under the "Paisaje de las Islas" or "Voyage through the Islands" label when his friend who lives on La Gomera showed him a superbly well situated parcel on the north coast of the island. Agustin harvested at 14% and was ridiculed by all the neighbors, who customarily harvest at 15% potential alcohol. After a 24 hour cold soak Agustin fermented the wine in stainless and raised in 500-L french oak barrels. Singular.

“Paisaje de las Islas” is a project to make a superlatively representative wine that embodies the flagship characteristics of the island from which it comes. The project will continue with a new addition from a new island next year; this is the second.

"...a wine made from purchased grapes. The 2017 version offers up a focused and complex bouquet of pear, a hint of green olive, sea salts, a lovely base of soil, fresh almond and a topnote of citrus peel. On the palate the wine is deep, full-bodied and well-balanced, with an excellent core of fruit, fine cut and grip and a long, soil-driven and complex finish. Good juice."
