Pommard 1er Cru les Rugiens

2021
France
Burgundy

From a .62 acre plot whose vines date from 1959. This parcel is located entirely in Rugiens en bas, a vineyard up for a vote on becoming Grand Cru. Jean-Pierre says that there is really no point to make it Grand Cru, however; "if it becomes Grand Cru, it is still the same wine in the bottle, you just pay more!"

" Here too there is a discreet application of wood to be found on the softly spicy and quite floral-scented nose of essence of plum, dark currant and green tea. The slightly bigger and definitely more powerful flavors deliver fine length on the markedly mineral-driven, moderately austere and quite serious finish. I would strongly suggest not even thinking about opening a bottle for the first 5 to 7 years as it’s very tightly wound. "
