Riesling GG Marienburg Fahrlay

A Bowler favorite, year after year. Clemens’ only parcel of blue slate on the Marienburg, which imparts luster, florality, sizzling acids and fantastic staying power to the wine. There is some skin contact in this wine’s vinification, lending a mild tannic backbone. It’s a steely pleaseure for Riesling purists who treasure minerality above all. Those who found pleasure in cellaring 2004s and 2008s from the Mosel should pay special attention to the 2016 of this wine.

"Picked at about 96° Oechsle along with the "Vom blauen Schiefer," which is sourced in the same plot, the 2016 Pündericher Marienburg Riesling GG "Fahrlay" is ripe and intense on the nose, intermixing herbal and slatey aromas with super ripe and concentrated Riesling notes. On the palate, this is a full-bodied, rich and mouth-filling Riesling with power, salt, grip, great tension and firm tannins. This has finely grained minerality and ripe, concentrated fruit. It's almost too opulent, but the mineral structure provides vibrating vitality and tension. The 2016 is far too young to drink today, but its aging potential should be huge. The acidity is fine and lively, but it is the overall structure and minerality that give this elegant and concentrated Riesling its expressive length. Tasted February 2018."

"Refined and mouthfilling, with an electric tension between the mouthwatering acidity and flavors of bergamot, hops and nectarine. Best from 2020 through 2028."

"Ripe apple and pear are tinged with anise and grapefruit peel on the forward nose and the creamy yet animatingly juicy palate. There is an underlying stoniness that contributes to this bottling’s formidable sense of density, yet it finishes with buoyancy and consummate refreshment."
