Riesling IGT Toscana
100% Riesling, selected in the Mosel, and planted at Maestà della Formica in 2014. This is an extreme vineyard, 0.6ha at 1050m, densely planted at 9400 plants/hectare, with the dramatic peak of Monte Sumbra (1795m) as a backdrop. The topsoil is sand and silt, with very little clay. Much of the vineyard is characterized by pure sandstone mother rock. Harvested as a dry wine on November 7th at low yields of 22 hl/ha. 15% of the grapes were lightly affected by botrytis. These were whole-cluster pressed, whereas the rest of the must saw 24 hrs of skin contact in the press, pre-fermentation. Vinified and aged in stainless steel, with 8 months on the lees. Bottled-aged for an additional 13 months before release. 10.5% abv and zero residual sugar. 1500 bottles produced.
