Riesling Rosengartel

This is the last vintage of Rosengartl under this name; the wine will continue under the new name “Riesling Utopie” next vintage. The Rosengartl vineyard is a legendary site for Riesling. It is on the right bank of the Danube on the famous Nussberg hill, a south-facing limestone slope that has great views of Vienna. Ambrositsch has eight rows of vines, planted in 2000 and 2001, right in the center of the plateau, the best spot. Peach and mineral. Bright acid with citrus finish. And from Marco, “Oh, the white blossoms, the cold wax, the gnawed-off apricot pits, the dried mint…one aroma intertwines with another as if conducted by a professional magician from the Heiligenstadt, leaving no time to pause for breath…”

90 points
"The 2016 Riesling Rosengartel is from a very small, south-facing plot in the Nussberg, so it grown on shell limestone. The wine opens with a clear and concentrated stone fruit aroma on the elegant and well-balanced nose. Medium to full-bodied, dense and fresh on the palate, this is a dry, vital and firmly structured Riesling with finesse, power and good length. Still young, this 2016 should age for several years."
