Riesling Spatlese Alte Reben "1923" Sonnenberg

A special release this year! 50g/l RS, 10.4g acid. Picked at the end of September. Tasted at the estate right after bottling, and the acidity is raging here--will likely need some time to integrate. But WOW! Gingery, mouthwatering, firm, lime-driven like a vodka gimlet, and blessed with a lurking sweeetness waiting to emerge. Interesting to note, this is the first time a wine this sweet has been made at this site.

"From vines planted in the early 1920s in the south-facing part of the vineyard, the 2018 Niedermenniger Sonnenberg Saar Riesling Spätlese Alte Reben displays a very clear, fresh and flinty bouquet that indicates great precision and style with perfectly ripe Riesling aromas intermingling with dusty notes of crushed stones. On the palate, this is a lush, linear, very elegant, precise, salty-piquant, terribly finessed and lemon-fresh Altenberg of top quality. This is an mazing Spätlese and surely a highlight of the vintage here. Tasted in June 2019."
