Riesling Spätlese Krettnacher Euchariusberg

Sourced entirely from old ungrafted vines (1963) in the lauded gross schock section of the Euchariusberg. A gloriously sweet entry telescopes to a tight, tensile finish. About 60g RS here, swallowed up by the incredible acidity that Muller gets in all his wines. Delicious and overtly pretty right from the start, it will be interesting to see how this evolves.

"The 2018er Krettnacher Euchariusberg Riesling Spätlese was harvested at a comparatively low 88° Oechsle in the Gross Schock, a prime west - facing sector of the vineyard, and was fermented down to fruity-styled levels of residual sugar. It proves still comparatively reduced and only gradually reveals some scents of wet stone, cassis, herbs and fine spices. The wine develops a gorgeously subtle feel of zesty creaminess on the racy and citrusy palate. Apricot, lemon zest, chalky minerals and herbal elements give depth and tension to the racy after -taste. This is a gorgeously racy expression of Saar Spätlese in the making. 2028-2048"

"From the south-facing Grossschock plot, the 2018 Krettnacher Euchariusberg Saar Riesling Spätlese offers an intense and concentrated yet still discreet, coolish and flinty bouquet with lemon and lime aromas and a rather coolish, clayey slate note. It is fascinating in its depth and terroir character. Sweet, lush and round on the palate, this is a very elegant, mouth-filling, slightly (too) sweet yet piquant and lemon-fresh Spätlese withexcellent aging potential. It is salty, lush and piquant on the pure and refreshing finish."
