Riesling Winninger Hamm
Hamm (from the Latin word hamus - meaning curve of the river), which straddles one end of the Uhlen nearer Winningen, has choice parcels on its terraces with finer slate. The terraces in this incredible vineyard were carved out in the 18th and 19th centuries; one can only imagine what a backbreaking, perilous job it was. Interestingly, the site is not 100% Riesling; there is some Chardonnay and Weissburgunder planted as well. Everything from the Hamm is gloriously floral. The 2012 Riesling is moderately rich with a fresh fine aroma and lingering salinity. With its yellow fruit profile and garden fragrance, it is vaguely reminscent of Chenin Blanc.
Bottled in May 2013.
