Rosato DOC Südtirol Lagrein Kretzer
100% Lagrein. "Kretzer" is the traditional Tyrolean name for this style, from the German word "kretze", a woven basket used to separate skins from juice in a bygone era. The DOC allows for 4 different grape varieties; the Mayrs opt for pure Lagrein from their estate around the winery. Their 40-to-90-year-old vines are wire-trained (in Guyot and Casarsa), farmed organically and harvested by hand. The rosato is a 50/50 combination of direct-press and saignée. It is full-bodied, soft and spicy, full of cranberry and dark-cherry fruit, supported by a mineral spine. Nusserhof releases it in the autumn a full year after the harvest, so the vintage is always one "behind" the rest of the rosé world.
