Saint-Joseph Rouge “Poivre et Sol”

2017

A blend from several steep parcels with east and south east exposure (Ardoix, Chavanay, Saint-Pierre-de-Boeuf). From 20 year-old vines planted in decomposed granite and quartz soil. Fermentation with eighty percent whole clusters in open-top wood and stainless steel tanks. Aged fifteen months in two- to four-year-old barrels.

"Deep, bright-rimmed ruby. Smoke- and spice-accented dark berries and licorice on the lively nose. Subtly sweet blackberry and cherry flavors show very good clarity and energy, picking up a suave floral quality with aeration. Displays sharp delineation, a light touch and strong, spicy lift on the persistent, gently tannic finish, which leaves lingering cherry pit and floral notes behind. (made with 60% whole clusters)"
